Diet and Weight Loss Losing Weight

For every 100 extra calories you eat, you will spend up to $2 in extra costs.

Once you go beyond the amount of calories your body needs to function for the day, those extra calories get stored as excess weight. And this additional weight means extra costs. In a study published in the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, researchers show how extra pounds lead to additional health care costs, as well as higher food costs, as it takes more food to feed a larger person, and fuel costs, as heavier people make cars less fuel efficient. "In essence," the study authors write, "the more a person overeats, the greater the financial cost."
