You can get fungal infections from your shoes

Microscopic pieces of skin and nails that contain fungus can be left inside shoes and socks. While people wash their socks, they tend not to wash the inside of their shoes. Because fungi like to live in dark, humid environments, they can live in heavy shoes for long periods of time and re-infect people when they wear these shoes again. Podiatrists recommend that people who have had fungal infections regularly spray their shoes, particularly their winter shoes, with an anti-fungal spray.
